Author, Trainer & Recruiter

"She possesses a drive and determination that sets her apart from her competition."
Charles B Sheldon - owner, editor of the Colorado Springs Business Journal.1992

Kathleen Conners' employment career began in the early 1990's recession when her hometown of Colorado Springs was dubbed "The Foreclosure Capital of the US" by the national media. Finding jobs when unemployment peeked at 7.9 percent was her forte.  She became a passionate detective uncovering clues for jobs!

Kathleen has been an experienced job developer, consultant for a major outplacement firm, and a recruiter.  In the summer of 2002, she was overwhelmed by professionals contacting her for new employment opportunities.  So the PeopleHirePeople Seminar was created to assisted job seekers with their two major problems:  "where" to discover companies with unadvertised jobs and "how" to contact hiring managers directly.  Seminar participants urged Kathleen to write a book making her techniques available for all professionals. Professionals in their job search learn: "where to search", "who to contact" and "what to ask" in order to build an effective Job Network.

Kathleen is a guest lecturer to university business schools, graduate students and professionals instructing new search techniques for a competitive edge in any type of job market.  She has been a guest on the national syndicated radio David Lawrence Talk Show discussing the ineffective Internet Job Boards.    Currently H&R Block Financial Services is the corporate sponsor for the PeopleHirePeople seminar for professionals in the Denver area.  Kathleen continues to actively recruit full time for client companies and is a graduate from Washington University, St. Louis.

Dear Job Seeker,

Jobs are the biggest issue for over nine million Americans today.  Despite a growing economy, this it can be a tough professional job market in which to navigate.  American job seekers receive misinformation: where to search and how to search and who to contact.  Misguided job seekers are instructed in Internet activities that do not reap successful employment opportunities.  Told to network, most job seekers do not have a logical and systematic process to build a job net. Traditional networking is very time consuming and not focused specifically for effective job search.

Current conventional wisdom leaves job seekers with a real disconnect.  Advice on cover letters, resumes, interviews, and salary negotiations is plentiful. Specific activities and processes for locating the companies with the 85% of unadvertised jobs are few. To further the disconnect, exact guidance for contacting hiring managers within the companies is rare.

Out of sheer frustration, I developed a seminar combining my creative investigative methods from the last recession with today's technology.  It demonstrates real working processes based on the principle, PeopleHirePeople.  The discovery of companies that "make things happen" and interaction with industry professionals "in the know" find the employment opportunities.  Imparting practical applications has assisted many in finding new careers.

None of this was ever planned but I am learning that one person can make a grass roots difference assisting one job seeker at a time.  From the seminar, I penned a book with case scenarios of 2003 seminar attendees getting interviews and achieving employment.  Many attendees had previously received outplacement and career management services that did not teach the "hunt" ,"find" and "connect" aspects of job search.  Continually, I have the opportunity to revise and update the PeopleHirePeople Seminar because of  great corporate sponsorship and universities' requests. I am blessed to be able to share my methods with so many professionals.

Sincerely,
Kathleen Conners
